Periodontal Screening

Gum Disease Evaluation

Periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease, often has no symptoms in its early stages. But don’t be fooled. This “silent” disease can still damage the gums, bone, and other tissues that surround your teeth. A periodontal screening involves checking your gums for problems such as pockets and loose teeth. Gum health is gauged by measuring the gap between teeth and gums. An instrument like a tiny ruler is gently inserted between the tooth and gum. Some space between the tooth and gum is normal. Deep pockets indicate the presence of periodontal disease. After your periodontal screening, Dr. Steinberg will let you know the status of your gum health and will discuss treatment options if needed.
